Abstract
An individual’s body image, reflecting individual style, health and even social status, determines his/her selfperception and the perception of others. One of the important questions posed by many researchers is what components influence satisfaction with one’s own body and how the attitude towards one’s body can further influence one’s wellbeing and mental state. The purpose of this article is to provide a systematic review of current research over the past 5 years that examines the relationship between satisfaction with one’s body image and psychological well-being. The scientific significance of the review is to summarize the current data and research in this area, for further development of a plan to conduct an experimental study in Kazakhstan on a sample of women of middle adulthood. When writing the paper, the method of theoretical analysis of scientific literature was used, including systematization and generalization of current data on the topic of body image and psychological well-being. The results of this article are conclusions about the close links between psychological well-being and body image, the influence of body image satisfaction on the emergence of eating disorders, as well as the influence of social networks on dissatisfaction with body image. The value of this study is in the targeted study of the relationship between psychological well-being and body image. We plan to use the findings to plan further research on body image in a sample of middleaged women of the first period (21–35 years old) in Kazakhstan in order to improve the effectiveness of psychological help to this clinical group.
